The Ladies of Gottesdienst Easter Hat Contest

Father Petersen's parish got it all started with this article in the Witness. Our ladies had a great time with it and we're looking forward to a second year - in fact, the ladies liked it so much that they brought out the hats again for Mothers' Day. Take a picture of your ladies on Easter in their bonnets and we'll post them here at Gottesdienst. Maybe we'll even come up with a prize. Since Petersen's congregation has already achieved fame and fortune via headgear, we'll make him the impartial judge.

You can even pass on some hat links....

HEADGEAR FOR WOMEN
It is a laudable custom, based upon a Scriptural injunction (1 Cor. 11:3-15), for women to wear an appropriate head covering in Church, especially at the time of divine service.

  1. So many of those are ultra-expensive. Maybe I'll just start growing raffia in my yard so I can weave my own. :)

  2. Happy Fox, last year I just got a floppy white thingy at Target and pinned on a flower. I can honestly say I looked super awesome, and so did the other lady here who did the same thing. :D

  4. This is an unfair fight. Redeemer will always win.

  6. I think I may have to invite our ladies to try this too.

  7. If you have antique stores nearby, they make a great source for inexpensive hats. Another excellent source is etsy.

  8. Adriane,

I don't think our impartial judge will choose his own parish :)

  9. Pastor Curtis,

    A) You must not know the judge!
    B) Redeemer is so awesome it doesn't even need his bias.
    C) I am homesick for Redeemer, so just bear with me.

  10. Wait, if Pastor Petersen is the judge, then we Redeemer ladies won't receive the credit we deserve for a fair win. Why don't we just post each church's ladies in a separate post and see who gets the most fiery criticism in the comments?

  11. "Our ladies had a great time with it and we're looking forward to a second year - in fact, the ladies liked it so much that they brought out the hats again for Mothers' Day."

St. Paul urged the Corinthian ladies to don their headdresses, every Lord's Day, "because of the angels." Now the Lutherans do it, and then ever more loosely, because of the Mommies.

  12. I'm going to wear a newspaper hat. Does that count?
